There have been times in my life that have moved me to write stories. I have many unfinished works of fiction based on life experiences, but making stuff up has proven to be more fun. The Mother’s Day stories are totally made up, have nothing to do with my mother, nor anything that ever happened to me. The dog stories that follow are also made up, but not by me. They are as told to me by you know who.
Mother’s Day – Stories of text messages having unexpected outcomes.
from Kirkus Review: Schwartz thoughtfully addresses real life dilemmas that other writers may overlook, such as the question of deleting a parent as a cell phone contact after the loved one’s death: “There at the top of her favorites list was the name ‘Mom.’ She had not had the will to delete the contact. Would anyone?” His use of a question is particularly effective here, provoking uncomfortable reflections from readers. It is also compelling to learn how each of the tales is interlinked–which the author reveals incrementally.

Amazon Kindle has hosted an episodic fiction site known as Vella. It is being taken down in 2025. My dog, Maggie (pen name Lucy,) found a way to tell these stories and would be sad if no one could read them so I have moved them from Vella to here. “Must Love Dogs” right?
The Observations and Tail of Lucy
Ever say, “I wish I knew what my dog is thinking?” How many Labradoodles or other kinds of Doodles have you seen lately? Maybe in your own home. They are known to be lovable, funny, and smart. In this humorous fantasy, one special dog has the ability to put her life in words. Meet Lucy.
Episode 1: Rebel, Son of Renegade
I am a dog. Yes, that is correct, a canine. Four legs, nice tail, the works. You might believe me if I told you that after years of lying around next to my masters’ desk, I finally figured out how to use his computer and type this story into Word. That is not the truth. I dictated it to the cat. Just kidding. The cat is an idiot. Let us try a leap of faith and accept that I have been blessed with the ability to transcribe my thoughts into this dialogue and let it go at that. And, by the way, my name is Lucy.
